'Renown' carrying the Prince of Wales with 'Terrible' in the background
Signed 'H. Kitson' and dated. Kitson was very competent amateur painter of naval subjects in both watercolour. He does not appear to have a generally recorded exhibiting and sale history as an artist and is consequently little known as such. No oils are recorded in UK public collections by Art UK but his work is well covered in 'When Britannia ruled the waves : the heyday of the Royal Navy through the paintings of Vice Admiral Sir Henry Kitson (1877-1952)', a 112-page book published by his son, General Sir Frank Kitson (Halsgrove, 2007).
