Equinoctial dial

Universal equinoctial dial for latitudes 0°-90° North. Hinged to the North side of the dial-plate is a silvered hour-circle whose inner rim is enamelled in black and numbered [VI]-XII, I-[VI]. A brass strut attached along the VI-VI line supports a rectangular brass rod gnomon. The latitude arc is silvered and hinged to the East side of the dial-plate, engraved on the outside only, and divided from the tip [0°]-[90°]. The compass is silvered and set into the base-plate. Its degree scale is divided [0°]-[90°]-[0°]-[90°]-[0°], and it features a highly decorated four-point rose with the cardinal and quadrantal points named by English initials. It has a thick needle and an arm to lift the needle and lock it in position against the glass. Two brass bubble levels are also set into the compass and a glass plate covers all.

The dial has a purple leather heart-shaped case with purple velvet lining (padded in lid) and three brass hook-fasteners. 'PRITCHARD 162.FLEET.ST. LONDON' is stamped in gold on the lid. This is very similar in style to AST0165 except that it can be used only in northern latitudes.
