Woodcut of early German ships, ca.1544. Item No.12
A group of islands surrounded by rough seas with sailing boats and sea monsters. It is an illustration to an unidentified German edition of Sebastian Münster’s ‘Cosmographia’, first published in 1544, and probably printed by Heinrich Petri in Basel.
The British Museum also has an impression (1982,U.2462).
