Augsburg dial
Augsburg dial for latitudes 10°-82° North. Standard dial (see related terms) except for the following details:-
The compass is silvered and has a central eight-point rose. The 'West' point has been given incorrectly as 'OR' rather than 'OC' (Latin initials). The magnetic variation is indicated as 18° West of North and the remainder of the dial-plate is engraved with floral engravings and geometric patterns. The latitude arc is divided [10°]-[82°] and a table of latitudes which lists a few places around Europe is engraved on the back of the compass, headed 'Eleva. Poli.'.
This dial is very similar in design to AST0280, although slightly larger. It is signed 'And. Vogl' on the base of the compass.
For more information regarding this dial please refer to the OUP & NMM catalogue, 'Sundials at Greenwich'.
