The man is carrying a yellow green bag. He is possibly a sailor. Whilst the face and top half of the figure are detailed, the rest of the sketch appears unfinished. The trouser and bag have not been refined and the background is incomplete. The sky is blue behind the sailor and there are red and white areas of colour toward the bottom of the sketch. The area of white nearest the bottom of the image may be water as Wyllie has used dark shading here to simulate the man’s reflection or shadow.
