Hay harvest with dog, haycart and horses

An oil sketch drawn by William Lionel Wyllie. It depicts a field with two white horses pulling a hay cart in the distance. There is a black and white dog standing behind the hay cart. The field is green, white and yellow and Wyllie has used expressive brushstrokes to depict clumps of thick cut grass in long lines across the field which has yet to be gathered up into hay bails. More fields, separated by dark green hedges can be seen in the distance. The fields slope up in the distance. A line of dark green trees can be seen on the ridge behind the field. The trees and hedges have been depicted through lines or expressive patches of dark green paint.
