A whole plate negative. A copy of an unsigned and undated painting depicting the 3 masted ship rigged vessel Calcutta (1852) under full sail in the English Channel. She is seen from off her starboard side just ahead of the beam and has painted ports. She has six square sails on each mast and is flying her signal letters JVSQ. Scratched on the emulsion below the image is "The
London Liner CALCUTTA passing the Eddystone outward bound to Melbourne". Scratched on the emulsion on the side of the negative is "Will do for the Great Queensland". The Great Queensland (1852) is a near sister of the Calcutta (1852).
