Seaweed and a crab
A watercolour drawing by William Lionel Wyllie. Two large strands of seaweed are depicted against a white background. In both studies, the seaweed is composed of various green and brown hues, while each composition illustrates the individual parts of the plant through delicate brushwork: the blades, stipe, and floats. Close to the the upper right corner, a smaller seaweed organism is depicted. A small study of a crab is included in the right corner of the work. The crab is characterised by red and brown hues. Several small dark marks (possibly ink) are visible on the right side of the work.
