Dog begging
A watercolour drawing by William Lionel Wyllie. A dog of unconfirmed breed (possibly a shih-tzu cross breed?) is shown standing up on its hind legs, in a posture associated with “begging” for food. The dog’s fur is characterised by grey hues overlapping subtly grey and yellow patches of watercolour. The thick and wavy texture of the dog’s shorthair coat is depicted through the use of short, overlapping curved brushstrokes. Additional short, rounded brushstrokes appear to the right side of the dog, giving the impression of movement. Specific details, including the dog’s right eye and pink nose, are included in the drawing. A small, light brown watermark is visible close to the bottom edge of the work.
