Labrador dog lying with his head on one side, on a rug

A graphite drawing by William Lionel Wyllie. A Labrador is displayed lying on a surface that appears to be carpet. Wooden floorboards are indicated through broad parallel lines in the immediate foreground. The dog lies with its head resting on top of the left limb, with the paw still in view. Particular attention has been focused on rendering the dog’s head, as darker, overlapping lines help distinguish the forms of the ears, eyes and nose. The texture of the dog’s coat is conveyed through patches of parallel lines visible on the right side of the dog’s face, as well as along the dog’s hindquarters. Hastily drawn lines define the dog’s paws as well as the contours running along the top of the body, which contrast with the more detailed manner in which the face has been rendered.
