Rearing horse
A graphite drawing by William Lionel Wyllie. A horse is displayed rearing up on its hind legs. Dark lines define the horse’s form, highlighting specific features such as the hooves and mouth. Both parallel and cross-hatched lines are employed to illustrate the texture of the horse’s coat, detailing areas including the neck, legs and hindquarters. The horse appears energetic, in part due to the dynamic rendering of its mane, which appears to stand on end as the horse rears back its head.
