Three horses, a cart and a man on a cliff top

A grey wash drawing by William Lionel Wyllie. In this work, three horses, a cart and a male figure are displayed in a monochromatic composition. The horses are shown leading a wooden cart in the centre of the drawing, with the male figure following behind. Small patches comprised of small brushstrokes indicate that the group is moving across an uneven terrain. The composition is identified as a coastal scene, with the sea represented by a large area of evenly applied grey wash. A brown mark is visible above the male figure in the sketch. The bottom edge of the work is rough. The patch of blue paint visible along the bottom edge suggests that another sketch was originally located below this scene.
