Fox on the run

A watercolour sketch by William Lionel Wyllie. A fox is depicted running through a green field. The fox is defined by heavy outlines and composed of red and brown hues. The view of the fox is slightly obscured by expressive brushstrokes, giving the impression the animal is racing through tall grass. The sketch occupies the centre of the paper, although a swathe of green paint is visible along the top edge of the sketch, and a patch of red paint is visible close to the bottom right edge. The roughly cut edges of the paper suggest that this image was originally surrounded by multiple sketches.
