Shepherd with his sheep

A wash drawing by William Lionel Wyllie. A monochromatic study of a shepherd herding a flock of sheep is depicted in the centre of the work. The shepherd’s back is turned and he guides the flock away from the viewer, into the distance. The figures appear to be moving through a sloping field. Small patches of darker pigment are used sparingly throughout the landscape to suggest the presence of tufts of grass.
