Leaves of a sycamore tree
A watercolour sketch by William Lionel Wyllie. A cluster of sycamore leaves are depicted on a slender dark stem. The leaves are depicted with a range of earth-tone hues, and composed at different angles. Numerous faint brown water marks are visible on the drawing, particularly in the upper right corner. A writing sample (possibly the artist’s signature) appears at the lower right corner of the work.
