Beech leaves

A watercolour study by William Lionel Wyllie. Four beech leaves are depicted on a single stem, along with four unopened leaf buds. The beech leaves are characterised by a ruddy brown colour scheme. Delicate linear brushwork has been applied to reveal striations in each leaf’s design. The leaves emerge from white space and are not set in a defined landscape.
