Essex (1862)
A whole plate negative. A slightly distant port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the 3 masted barque rigged vessel Essex (1862) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is rigged with double topsails on the fore and main and single topgallants. There are no royals. She has painted ports and a swim headed stumpy rigged spritsail barge is alongside amidships. Tilbury Fort is in the background. The Essex (1862) sailed from Gravesend 2 December 1876 for Melbourne. Negatives numbers G1576 and G2278 were taken on the same occasion.
