In the right foreground, a starboard-bow view of a bezan yacht before the wind. In the left middle-distance, a port-bow view of a flagship at anchor, with a flag at the main and a pendant at the fore. Astern of her is a ship with a flag and pendant at the main. A small boat with a flag heads away from the yacht towards the central flagship. Other small-scale vessels are also present in the distance.

The work is signed in the lower right corner with part of the signature W.V.V.J. and the yacht and boat to its left are strengthened with pen and grey ink.
