A View of Deptford. Engraved for Harrison's History of London
Copper-plate print, titled below the image 'A View of Deptford' and lettered above it 'Engraved for Harrison's History of London' identifying it as a plate from Walter Harrison's publication of 1775. The spire of Thomas Archer's church of St Paul's, and the tower of St Nicholas are visible on the left. A naval vessel (flying flags) and a partly rigged one lie off the foreshore where others are being built in what is presumably intended to be the Royal Dockyard. However, the image is in no way up-to-date for 1775 when the Dockyard installations were much larger and this is probably based on a much earlier view.
