North American (1856)
A whole plate negative. A port very near broadside view, taken from only just ahead of the beam, of the 3 masted ship rigged vessel North American (1856) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. An unidentified stumpy rigged barge is alongside. The Coast guard Watch Vessel CGWV.28 (1847) is drawn up on the shore on the left and Tilbury Fort Watergate is in the right background. This vessel was converted from a steamship in 1874.
