Royal Exchange, Looking South westward. London. For the Beauties of England & Wales EWB. No.40 - 2

Before the Royal Exchange building was built, Lombard Street was the traditional meeting place for merchants to conduct their business. Here, they met twice a day and made deals exposed to the weather and the open streets. The exchange ceased its original function in 1939 but the offices are still occupied by the Guardian Royal Exchange Assurance Company.
