Universal equinoctial ring dial

Universal equinoctial ring dial for 0°-90° North. Standard dial (see related terms) except for the following details:-

The dial is for northern latitudes only and the latitude scale on the obverse side of the meridian ring is divided clockwise from top N0r-[90°]. The hour scale on the obverse side of the equinoctial ring is depicted on a scroll and there is also an hour scale on the inner-rim. On the reverse is a zodiac scale along the inner edge and a date scale on the outer edge. The equinoxes are marked at 19½ March and 22½ September. There is also a scale for sunrise and sunset and a declination scale.

Engraved at each end of the bridge on both sides are stylised fleur-de-lys. The usual zodiac scale on the bridge is here replaced by one giving the hour of sunrise and sunset for different times of the year. A zodiac scale, accompanied by a date scale, appears on the equinoctial ring of the dial. It is signed '17 William Parsons 59' on the obverse side of the equinoctial ring.
