Rotterdam

An etching of Rotterdam viewed from the sea. There is one large sailing ship and two smaller vessels in the foregound. The arms of the city of Rotterdam are included to the upper right of the image. The title 'Rotterdam' appears in the upper centre of the image with the Latin title in the centre above the platemark. Probably used as an illustration for Lodovico Guicciardini's 'Omnium Belgii, sive Inferioris Germaniae, regionum descriptio' (first published in 1613). Verso: A printed description of the city of Rotterdam, in Latin.
