Giralda (1897); Lord Nelson (1898)
A 12x10 negative. A slightly distant starboard side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of the spritsail barge Giralda (1897) under sail in the Thames estuary during the 1898 Medway Barge Match. She is in ballast and her leeboards are raised. The spritsail barge LORD NELSON (1898), also seen from abaft her starboard beam, is in the left background with a gaff cutter rigged boat near her stern. Both barges are competing in the Champion Topsail class. The Giralda (1897) came home first in class with the Lord Nelson (1898) second some 14 minutes behind her.
