She is in ballast and her leeboards are raised. The spritsail barge LORD NELSON (1898), also seen from abaft her starboard beam, is in the left background with a gaff cutter rigged boat near her stern. Both barges are competing in the Champion Topsail class. The Giralda (1897) came home first in class with the Lord Nelson (1898) second some 14 minutes behind her.
