Haughty Belle (1896)
A 12x10 negative. A slightly distant starboard side view, taken from abaft the beam, of the spritsail rigged topsail barge Haughty Belle (1896) under sail in the Thames Estuary during the Thames or Medway Barge Match. Her hull is painted white and she has iron leeboards. Her jib, foresail and mizzen sails are white. A crew member near the stern is using a bucket on a rope to haul up seawater to keep the bottom of the mizzen sail wet to aid wind retention.
