A slightly distant port quarter view of the spritsail rigged general cargo topsail barge James Piper (1894) under sail in the Thames Estuary during the outbound leg of the Thames Barge Match from Gravesend Reach to the Mouse and back. She is running downwind on the port tack, her jib is boomed out to port and her lee boards are raised. Her crew are dressed in white. She has No. 346 on her transom. Other racing barges and two square rigged vessels are in the distance. A vertical format image.
