Augsburg dial
Augsburg dial for latitudes 12°-90° North. Standard dial (see related terms) except for the following details:-
The compass is silvered, has an eight-point rose and is surrounded by an engraved border that includes acanthus leaves. The latitude arc is divided [12°]-9[0°] and the back of the compass is engraved with a table of latitudes for places in Europe, headed 'Elev Pol'. The dial has a black octagonal leather case with blue silk lining and a brass hook fastener.
Muller's dials are, if anything, even simpler than those of the two Voglers. This particular one is rather heavy in design, with thick pieces of brass used for the latitude arc and hour ring. The initials 'LTM' are engraved on the base of the compass.
For more information regarding this dial please refer to the OUP & NMM catalogue, 'Sundials at Greenwich'.
