Surf (1900)
A 12x10 negative. A slightly distant starboard side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of the spritsail rigged general cargo barge Surf (1900) under sail in the Thames Estuary during the Thames Barge Match. She is on the port tack and has her race number flag on her forestay. This race was sailed during a north-north-east half gale and was one of the quickest matches on record, with only 12 minutes and 16 seconds separating the first and last barges home. The Surf (1900) was placed seventh.
