Augsburg dial

Augsburg dial of unknown latitude (probably for 0°-90° North). Standard dial (see related terms) except for the following details:-

The dial-plate is lacquered and the compass has a central decoration. The remainder of the dial-plate is engraved with floral and geometric designs. The latitude arc is missing. The inner rim of the hour ring is numbered 3-12, 1-9. Hinged to the South side of the dial-plate, the plumb-bob support is elaborately shaped, engraved with foliate decoration and pierced to accommodate the plumb bob. The brace for the plumb-bob support on the reverse side is shaped and engraved with a jagged border. The back of the compass is engraved with a table of latitudes for a few places in Europe.

This is a standard dial by Andreas Vogler which has been made with a lack of care. He has signed it 'Andr. Vogle.' on the base of the compass.
