Nobiliss D' Robertus Barty Comes D Lindsei Dominus Willougbi D' Eresbi [Robert Bertie, Earl of Lindsey]

Portrait of Robert Bertie (1582-1642), Earl of Lindsey, Lord Willoughby of Eresby. He inherited the latter title from his father and was made Earl of Lindsey by Charles I in 1626. From 1635 to 1639 he was Lord High Admiral then, at the start of the Sottish war, became Governor of Berwick until 1642 when advanced to become General of the Royalist forces. On 23 October that year he was mortally wounded at the Battle of Edgehill, Warwickshire, and his body later interred at Edenham, Lincs.
