Sr Chaloner Ogle Knt. Admiral of the Blue Squadron

An oval half-length portrait to left of Chaloner Ogle (1681–1750) in a brocade waistcoat, a frock coat and a wig. Lettered beneath the image: ‘Sr. Chaloner Ogle Knt: Admiral of the Blue Squadron. / J. M. B. sc.’ This print was engraved in Leipzig by the German printmaker Johann Martin Bernigeroth. The portrait is derived, in reverse, from John Faber the Younger’s mezzotint of 1741, which was itself engraved after a painting in enamels by Christian Friedrich Zincke (see PAF3381). This print was probably produced sometime between 1744 and 1747, since the inscription refers to the sitter as admiral of the blue, which was his rank from June 1744 until July 1747.
