The Rt. Honble. Edward Boscawen, Admiral of the Blue. At 49. Engraved by C Bestland from a Picture by Sir Joshua Reynolds, in the Possession of Viscount Falmouth
A half-length portrait of Edward Boscawen (1711–1761) in flag officer’s undress uniform, 1748–1767, with a wig. Lettered beneath the image with the title and publication line: ‘The Rt. Honble. Edward Boscawen. Admiral of the Blue. At 49. Engraved by C. Bestland from a Picture by Sir Joshua Reynolds in the Possession of Viscount Falmouth. Published June 1 1803 by C. Bestland, West End Hampstead.’ This portrait was engraved by Cantelowe Bestland in 1803 after Joshua Reynolds’s full-length portrait of 1755–7, which remains in the collection of Lord Falmouth. The National Maritime Museum holds a nineteenth-century copy of Reynolds’s painting (see BHC2565). (Updated April 2019.)
