Admiral Lord Anson

An oval bust-length portrait of George Anson (1697–1762) in a queue wig, waistcoat and coat. Swags of drapery hang above the portrait, which rests on a fictive stone plinth lettered with the title, ‘Admiral Lord Anson’. The portrait is based on a portrait by Arthur Pond, which was engraved by Charles Grignion in 1744 (see PAG6365). (Updated May 2019.)
