Admiral Keppel
A circular bust-length portrait of Augustus Keppel (1725–1786) in captain’s undress uniform, 1748–1767. Lettered in the frame of the portrait with the title, ‘Admiral Keppel’, and the production details, ‘J. Hall sculp’. This print was engraved by John Hall, an engraver active in London between 1767 and 1797. The portrait is derived from Joshua Reynolds’s full-length oil painting of 1752–3 (see BHC2823), possibly via another engraving. (Updated April 2019.)
