Austral (1881)
A half plate negative. A copy of a painting showing a port near broadside view of the passenger/cargo liner Austral (1881) under way at sea. She is shown as built with short funnels and an auxiliary sailing rig. Five square sails, three gaff sails and two foresails are set. Her square sails are full and hauled to port but her flags and funnel smoke indicate a wind from dead ahead.
