Port Victor (1885) in dry dock

A 12x10 negative. A very close starboard bow view of the passenger/cargo liner Port Victor (1885) in the north-east dry dock at Tilbury, Essex. The photographer is standing in the bottom of the dock close to the bow looking aft and up showing very bad collison damage to the lower part of the bow, which is crushed back to reveal the tightly packed ballast/cargo in the forward hold. The ship has a grey hull with a clipper stem, an ornamental scroll above a single hawse and there are five scuttles in the forecastle. The Port Victor (1885) was in collision with the steamship Roecliff (1894) east of the Sovereign Light Vessel on Friday 4 June 1897 while outward bound for Jamaica. The Roecliff (1894) sank.
