Garonne (1871)
A whole plate negative. A slightly distant port side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Garonne (1871) at anchor inside Sydney Heads, New South Wales. She is as built with a tall funnel, barque rig and no deckhouses abreast the foremast. A pivot mounted smooth bore, muzzle loading cannon in a concrete emplacement is in the foreground. This may be part of the Georges Head Battery which consisted of four 80 pounder rifled and two 68 pounder smooth bore muzzle loading cannon. A copy negative made by F C Gould & Son of a photographic print produced by an unknown photographer.
