The Earl of St Vincent, An Admiral of the Fleet G.C.B. & General of Marines. From an Original Picture in the Possession of Captn Brenton for Captn Brenton's Naval History
A half-length portrait of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent (1752–1820) as an old man in a dark coat with the star of the Order of the Bath and a large hat. Lettered beneat the image with the title, ‘The Earl of St Vincent, An Admiral of the Fleet G.C.B. & General of Marines’, over a sword and sceptre crossed over an earl’s coronet. Also lettered with the production details and the publication line: ‘Painted by Carbonnier. / Engraved on Steel by Charles Turner. / From an Original Picture in the Possession of Capt. Brenton for Captn. Brenton’s Naval History. / London. Published Decr. 6, 1822 by C. Truner, No. 50, Warren Street, Fitzroy Square.’ This portrait was engraved on steel by Charles Turner after a painting by Casimir Carbonnier. The print was published by Turner himself on 6 December 1822 and featured as the frontispiece to the first volume of Edward Pelham Brenton’s ‘The Naval History of Great Britain, from the Year MDCCLXXXIII to MDCCCXXXVI’ (London: C.
