Joachim [Murat], Duc de Berg & Cleve, Gd Amiral Maral d'Empire. Ne le 25 Mars, 1771

Print. The Italian-born Murat was a Marshal of France and Admiral of France under Napoleon. He was also the 1st Prince Murat, Grand Duke of Berg from 1806 to 1808, and King of Naples from 1808 to 1815. He received his titles in part by being Napoleon's brother-in-law through marriage to his younger sister, Caroline Bonaparte, as well as personal merit. Evicted from Naples with the fall of Napoleon in 1815 he was executed by Ferdinand IV of the Two Sicilies, following his restoration to the throne there, facing his death with great bravery. He was in fact born in 1767, not 1771 as stated on this print.
