Armillary sphere

Armillary sphere. Ornate gilt brass stand. Circular base with inset compass, 32 points engraved. Four legs coverging to central pillar, dividing into four supports for horizon ring. Held together by ornamental drop screws. Engraved with zodiac divisions and signs, and months of the year. On outer edge are names of winds in two languages.
In the centre of the primary sphere, there is a globe representing the Earth. Geographical details on the terrestrial sphere are the same as those of GLB0246. Loxodromes are drawn for 32 compass points. The discoveries of William Dampier, north of New Guinea, are depicted 'Britannia Nova'. Australia is drawn according to the Dutch discoveries and California is drawn as an island. The coastline extending west of Northwest America is labelled 'TERRA ESONIS'.
