Lord Nelson's Funeral Car
Illustration of Lord Nelson's funeral car detailing the decoration and inscription along the top, which reads 'PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT' which translates as, Let him wear the palm who has deserved it - Nelson's personal motto. On the return of his body to England, his body was taken to Greenwich, where it rested in state between 4-7 January, 1806. On the 8 January, 1806, seamen from HMS Victory carried his coffin to the funeral barge to begin the procession down the River Thames to St Paul's Cathedral. Print
