G B Rodney
State before publication line. A half-length portrait of George Bridges Rodney (bap. 1718, d. 1792) in flag officer’s undress uniform, 1748–1767. Lettered beneath the image with a facsimile of the sitter’s signature. This print was engraved in 1840 for E. H. Maxwell (ed.), ‘The Naval and Military Almanac’ (London: A. H. Baily & Co., 1840), February, opposite page 10, alongside a biography of the sitter. The portrait is after Joshua Reynolds’s oil painting of 1756–9, now at Petworth. For an impression of this print with the publication line, see PAD4517. (Updated May 2019.)
