Augustus Viscount Keppel. OB. 1786

A half-length portrait of Augustus Keppel (1725–1786) in flag officer’s undress uniform, 1748–1767, with his hat under his left arm. The portrait is surrounded by an octagonal frame. Lettered beneath the image: ‘Reynolds pinxt. / Augustus Viscount Keppel OB. 1786.’ This print was published in the 1849 edition of Edmund Lodge’s ‘Portraits of Illustrious Personages of Great Britain’ (London: Henry G. Bohn, 1850), volume 8. The portrait is after an original portrait by Joshua Reynolds. Reynolds’s portrait was painted around 1762, after an earlier version painted in 1759. It is currently at Woburn Abbey. (Updated May 2019.)
Technique includes stipple engraving.
