G B Rodney. Engraved for the Naval & Military Almanac 1840
A half-length portrait of George Bridges Rodney (bap. 1718, d. 1792) in flag officer’s undress uniform, 1748–1767. Lettered beneath the image with a facsimile of the sitter’s signature and the publication line, ‘Engraved for the Naval and Military Almanac 1840’. This print was engraved in 1840 for E. H. Maxwell (ed.), ‘The Naval and Military Almanac’ (London: A. H. Baily & Co., 1840), February, opposite page 10, alongside a biography of the sitter. The portrait is after Joshua Reynolds’s oil painting of 1756–9, now at Petworth. (Updated May 2019.)
