The Rt Honble Sr George Rooke: One of the Lords of the Admiralty
An oval bust-length portrait of George Rooke (c. 1650–1709) in a long wig. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘The Rt. Honble. Sr. George Rooke; One of the Lords of the Admiralty.’ Also lettered with the production details and publication line, ‘M. Dahl Pinx: / Cum Privileis Regis / Sold by E. Cooper at ye 3 Pidgeons in Bedford Street.’ This portrait is based, in reverse, on an oil painting by Michael Dahl. The print was published by Edward Cooper (fl. 1682, d. 1725), who also published a version of the same portrait engraved by Jean Simon (see PAD4574). (Updated May 2019.)
