Sir George Rooke. From an Original Drawing the Property of Vice Admiral Kingsmill
Hand-coloured stipple engraving. An oval bust-length portrait of George Rooke (c. 1650–1709) in a long wig, armour and a sash fastened at the shoulder with a brooch. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Sir George Rooke, From an Original Drawing the Property of Vice Admiral Kingsmill.’ Also lettered with the production details and publication line: ‘J. Faber del. 1703 / F. Bartolozzi sculp 1794. / London, Pubd. Novr. 1. 1794. by R. Faulder Bond Street.’ This portrait was engraved in 1794 by Francesco Bartolozzi after a drawing by John Faber the Elder from 1703. The print was published by Robert Faulder and appeared as a frontispiece in John Charnock’s ‘Biographia Navalis; or, Impartial Memoirs of the Lives and Characters of Officers of the Navy of Great Britain, From the Year 1660 to the Present Time’ (London: R. Faulder, 1794), volume 1. (Updated May 2019.)
