Capture of La Cleopatre by H.M.S. La Nymphe off the Start, June 18th 1793
Technique includes etching. The 32-gun fifth rate 'Nymphe' (itself a French prize taken by the 'Flora' in August 1780, during the War of American Independence) was at this time under the command of Captain Edward Pellew, later Lord Exmouth, who made his name as a dashing frigate captain. This action was the first single-ship action capture of the French Revolutionary War. 'Nymphe' had a long career in British service until wrecked in the Firth of Forth in 1810.
