Somersetshire (1867)

A whole plate negative. A port broadside view of the auxiliary ship rigged passenger/cargo liner Somersetshire (1867) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is rigged with double topsails and single topgallants with no royals. The Daniel List states her rig was double topgallants and single royals. A number of people are gathered on her poop. Tilbury Fort Watergate is in the background. This negative has been broken and discarded but a 12x10 photographic print made in the 1950s from the negative before it was broken is available for scanning. Negatives numbers G1294 and G1527 were taken on the same occasion.
