Sultan (1873)

A whole plate negative. A slightly distant starboard side view, taken from well ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Sultan (1873) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has a 3 masted rig with two yards on the foremast and she is flying the blue peter and her houseflag. A swim-headed stumpy spritsail barge is alongside aft. Tilbury railway station and ferry pontoon is in the background. This negative has been broken and discarded but a 12x10 photographic print produced in the 1950s is available for scanning. Negatives numbers G1332, G1534 and G2331 were taken on the same occasion.
