Persian Monarch (1880)
A whole plate negative. A starboard broadside view of the passenger/cargo liner Persian Monarch (1880) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has a course, topsail and topgallant on each of her fore and main masts, a spanker on her mizzen mast and no canvas on her jigger mast. An awning is rigged over her bridge. Her number 3 boat is swung out and suspended under the davits. Tilbury is in the background. Negatives numbers G1942 and G2227 were taken on the same occasion. The emulsion of this negative has very badly deteriorated and the negastive has been discarded but a 12x10 photographic print produced in the 1950s is available for scanning.
